RSS Integration: Personalized Online Marketing

Reading time: 2 – 4 minutes As with most online marketing strategies there is a link between the various facets of marketing. For example there is a compatibility link between a business blog (b-blog) and a forum board. There is also a link between a b-blog and a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feed. Allow customers to decide what is most important. By using an RSS feed in conjunction with your b-blog you are extending a courtesy to your valued customers. They can choose to be ‘fed’ blog entries that are compatible with their personal interests. Don’t be surprised if they visit at times other than an RSS prompt. This concept can also be implemented with a content-rich website where new articles are being added on a regular basis. These new articles are a draw to those who access an RSS feed because it allows a hands-free feed of desired information from sources they trust. An RSS feed allows you the opportunity to become a trusted source for information. Integrated...

RSS and a Statement of Terms

Reading time: 3 – 4 minutes The way the world views media has changed. Was it so long ago that we grabbed a TV schedule magazine off the rack of a grocery store shelf and perused it to find what we wanted to watch? If we knew we were going to miss it we set the VCR to record it while we were gone. Today we can receive a full compliment of audio and video programs on demand and online. No longer are we bound by limited choice or availability. Anywhere you have Internet capabilities you also have the ability to access compelling and entertaining audio and video streams. This revolution in media exchange has been easily facilitated by Real Simple Syndication (RSS). An RSS feed can manage the most popular media offerings and download them to a file for easy retrieval or playback. Many people have abandoned the morning paper in favor of news courtesy of an RSS feed. These individuals will set up their RSS reader to follow stories written by a particular author or articles written on a...

RSS and the Annual Assembly of the Grand Tehno-Geeks

Reading time: 2 – 4 minutes The crowd is enthusiastic as they wait for the keynote speaker to take the stage. Many have been waiting all year for this event and the crowd goes wild as Ricky Sam Saboro makes his way to the stage. “Good evening,” he begins, and then waits for the crowd to settle. “Tonight we refuse to look to the future because the future is now.” Again the crowd erupts in applause and a standing ovation. “Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Please take your seats. Many of you are pleased with the autodiscovery made possible by spiderbots while channels are syndicated finding validation to distribute the headline element. Perhaps the most exciting part of this paradigm is that the publisher accepts the subscriber who has a reader for successful syndication. All of this works conjunctively with text, audio and video. Long live RSS.” At that point the assembly of Grand Techno-Geeks roar their approval and rush the stage for autographs. If...

RSS – On Time Delivery

Reading time: 2 – 4 minutes The New York Times may be credited for the acceptance of Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds. This newspaper was one of the first large scale adopters of the technology and paved the way for others to see the usefulness of RSS. RSS allows individuals to sign up for virtually any kind of new content feed from a website and permit that information to be downloaded to a ‘reader’ on the individual’s computer. Some of the earliest attributions of RSS were for Netscape users. However, when AOL purchased Netscape support for this feature was removed from the system. There was even a controversy as to who actually had ownership of the RSS feed idea. Today you will find audio, video, news and knowledge-based text being automatically sent to RSS subscribers without the need for these individuals to rediscover the originating website. The reasons RSS has tremendous marketing potential is that it can serve as a means of more definitely targeting a...

How to Use RSS Feeds on Your Blog Or Website

Reading time: 2 – 4 minutes RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. What does that mean for you and your Internet browsing enjoyment? When people surf the Internet they tend to find favorite websites or weblogs, which they return to frequently. Often times they have to book mark the site or remember the URL of the site. When people discover several sites they want to read new content, they have a large list of URLs to save. This is where the need for RSS comes into play. What does RSS do? RSS readers or aggregators gather updated information from websites and weblogs. This program then republishes the information for ease-of-use for the subscriber. This means all the websites and all the weblog’s newly published posts will all come in one place for the subscriber to read. With RSS, readers can quickly browse the list of new content from various Internet sites without even having to visit any of the sites. The best part of this service is it is usually free. Where Can I Get...
