Online businesses that integrate RSS technology in their business blogs and websites ultimately provide a non-intrusive marketing tool to a motivated group of consumers. By taping into the informational needs of consumers an RSS feed you have given them the gift of information and yourself a gift of another positive marketing impression.

Reading time: 2 – 4 minutes

As with most online marketing strategies there is a link between the various facets of marketing. For example there is a compatibility link between a business blog (b-blog) and a forum board. There is also a link between a b-blog and a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feed.

Allow customers to decide what is most important.

By using an RSS feed in conjunction with your b-blog you are extending a courtesy to your valued customers. They can choose to be ‘fed’ blog entries that are compatible with their personal interests. Don’t be surprised if they visit at times other than an RSS prompt.

This concept can also be implemented with a content-rich website where new articles are being added on a regular basis. These new articles are a draw to those who access an RSS feed because it allows a hands-free feed of desired information from sources they trust.

An RSS feed allows you the opportunity to become a trusted source for information.

Integrated technology in marketing

Online marketing is the next logical step for brick and mortar stores. Whether you have a store front or find yourself exclusively web-based you can take advantage of available technologies allowing you to maximize the impact you have on prospects and existing customers.

The prospect of merging existing technologies into a comprehensive online marketing plan can be a little disconcerting if you aren’t really sure how these technologies work or how they perform together.

By spending some time in research or by outsourcing some of the design features that allow the integration to take place you are laying the groundwork that will positively impacting the future productivity of your online business.

Many blogging sites allow the implementation of site RSS at no extra costs to their customers while web browsers like Firefox already have a built in RSS reader that allows the end-user easy access the information they are most interested in.

As your website and/or blog grows you will find more and more people accessing the RSS feature. This is a great tool that provides a motivated list of contacts. Every time you post a new article on your website or post something on your blog the information is quickly directed to the parties most interested.

RSS simply offers another consumer tool that permits your clients to be in control of the information they receive, your job is to provide quality information and quietly allow it to connect with a receptive audience.

The Internet is streamlining functions that had all been previously distinct and non-interactive. Now consumers have a global one-stop shop for whatever media they may want - and RSS is the bonding agent that brings all of this easily to the consumer.

Reading time: 3 – 4 minutes

The way the world views media has changed. Was it so long ago that we grabbed a TV schedule magazine off the rack of a grocery store shelf and perused it to find what we wanted to watch? If we knew we were going to miss it we set the VCR to record it while we were gone.

Today we can receive a full compliment of audio and video programs on demand and online. No longer are we bound by limited choice or availability. Anywhere you have Internet capabilities you also have the ability to access compelling and entertaining audio and video streams.

This revolution in media exchange has been easily facilitated by Real Simple Syndication (RSS). An RSS feed can manage the most popular media offerings and download them to a file for easy retrieval or playback.

Many people have abandoned the morning paper in favor of news courtesy of an RSS feed. These individuals will set up their RSS reader to follow stories written by a particular author or articles written on a specific topic.

Podcast fans can have their Reader capture and load a recurring podcast they enjoy and then listen to the program when time allows. The same is true for video streams and other entertainment data.

Sports fans can set their RSS systems to capture sports scores or information about their favorite teams. Movie fans can capture box office scores and movie news. Cooks can capture new recipes and cooking tips. Car enthusiasts can capture information on their favorite cars. RSS is incredibly flexible and can capture data from any site that uses an RSS feed.

It has become much easier for the average consumer to locate an RSS reader and access the information they had to conduct a search for under other circumstances.

The Internet is streamlining functions that had all been previously distinct and non-interactive. Now consumers have a global one-stop shop for whatever media they may want – and RSS is one of the bonding agents that bring all of this easily to the consumer.

When you think about it there are millions of websites with trillions of words. None of us want to sort through all of that to find what we are looking for. A simple RSS subscription allows you to demystify the process and bring home what you want – when you want it.

Because the Internet is a conglomeration of computers linked together there is a drawing on the collective brain trust of the web. It may not be perfect, but by selecting exactly what you want an RSS feed can bring that selected data, audio or video directly to you.

The growth of RSS has made it a standard of excellence in delivering wanted material on your terms. This process does benefit the individual business site because it can keep site information in front of the consumer, but it also is a huge benefit to the consumer because unlike signing up for an email-marketing piece you collect only the data you want without feeling as though you are tied to the business that offers the content.

The use of RSS has made it possible for consumers to access information they want in ways that were unheard of just a few years ago. RSS has linked information and entertainment oriented consumers with willing suppliers of that information.

Reading time: 2 – 4 minutes

The crowd is enthusiastic as they wait for the keynote speaker to take the stage. Many have been waiting all year for this event and the crowd goes wild as Ricky Sam Saboro makes his way to the stage.

“Good evening,” he begins, and then waits for the crowd to settle. “Tonight we refuse to look to the future because the future is now.”

Again the crowd erupts in applause and a standing ovation.

“Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Please take your seats. Many of you are pleased with the autodiscovery made possible by spiderbots while channels are syndicated finding validation to distribute the headline element. Perhaps the most exciting part of this paradigm is that the publisher accepts the subscriber who has a reader for successful syndication. All of this works conjunctively with text, audio and video. Long live RSS.”

At that point the assembly of Grand Techno-Geeks roar their approval and rush the stage for autographs.

If you’re like most people probably none of this made any sense, but for those that have a full understanding of Real Simple Syndication (RSS) they understand that a complex series of events need to work together for the electronic syndication of data.

Newspapers use RSS to alert their readers of breaking news. Sites with recipes syndicate their latest culinary creation. Online broadcasters syndicate podcasts and your favorite writer may syndicate a column.

The use of RSS has made it possible for consumers to access information they want in ways that were unheard of just a few years ago. Access to information has never been more dominate. The use of RSS has linked information and entertainment oriented consumers with willing suppliers of that information.

In most cases the ability to supply RSS has been simplified for both the end user and the syndication supplier.

The end user needs to locate an RSS Reader. On a positive note many are free and some are standard equipment with some web browsers.

When you sign up for an RSS Feed you are still left with choices. For instance most RSS feeds will include a basic headline of the information you are receiving via RSS. That headline should provide enough information to know if you are interested in investigating further or moving on to something else.

For the content owner RSS provides value because individuals can be alerted quickly and without the need to do anything more strenuous than post the syndicated material for online consumption. The RSS feed does the rest.

This article provides some background on RSS feeds and how a newspaper in the east may have given it new life. A mixture of historical data and current application makes this a timely article for online marketers.

Reading time: 2 – 4 minutes

The New York Times may be credited for the acceptance of Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds. This newspaper was one of the first large scale adopters of the technology and paved the way for others to see the usefulness of RSS.

RSS allows individuals to sign up for virtually any kind of new content feed from a website and permit that information to be downloaded to a ‘reader’ on the individual’s computer.

Some of the earliest attributions of RSS were for Netscape users. However, when AOL purchased Netscape support for this feature was removed from the system.

There was even a controversy as to who actually had ownership of the RSS feed idea.

Today you will find audio, video, news and knowledge-based text being automatically sent to RSS subscribers without the need for these individuals to rediscover the originating website.

The reasons RSS has tremendous marketing potential is that it can serve as a means of more definitely targeting a core groups of site enthusiasts.

When a visitor clicks on the RSS emblem on your website they are saying they want to be informed when new data is placed on your site. This is important because it goes beyond simply signing up to be informed of any specials through email marketing. RSS users are saying they are interested enough in what you have available that they want to remain in the loop on new developments within your site.

When audio or video is accessed through an RSS feed that video or audio is downloaded to the recipients account for playback. These Internet users don’t have to wonder when something new is available and they don’t have to worry about download times it is taken care of automatically.

If you were to go to a furniture store and request a certain type of furniture the company may have to special order the merchandise and then call you when it arrived to make arrangements for delivery.

Imagine what as RSS feed could do for shopping. Customers can be informed, free products can be downloaded automatically and the customer remains pleased that they were among the first to gain access to the latest information or download.

This same scenario is happening for news sources, sports sites and millions of other consumer oriented websites around the world.

To think, RSS might have gone away completely, but there were a few who believed in the potential of RSS. As more and more websites caught the vision for how RSS feeds could improve their online visibility the service returned, was embraced and became a new standard in on time delivery on the web.

Reading time: 2 – 4 minutes

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. What does that mean for you and your Internet browsing enjoyment? When people surf the Internet they tend to find favorite websites or weblogs, which they return to frequently. Often times they have to book mark the site or remember the URL of the site. When people discover several sites they want to read new content, they have a large list of URLs to save. This is where the need for RSS comes into play.

What does RSS do?

RSS readers or aggregators gather updated information from websites and weblogs. This program then republishes the information for ease-of-use for the subscriber. This means all the websites and all the weblog’s newly published posts will all come in one place for the subscriber to read. With RSS, readers can quickly browse the list of new content from various Internet sites without even having to visit any of the sites. The best part of this service is it is usually free.

Where Can I Get a RSS Reader?

Fortunately, finding a RSS Reader is not hard. Most popular browsers such as Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer 7 & up have built-in RSS Readers. However, if you are using a different browser, which does not support a RSS Reader, there are several options to choose from and most are free. Type into your search engine “Free RSS Reader” and find one, which will serve your purposes. Once you have a reader, than you can begin subscribing to all your favorite sites and blogs.

What About My Blog?

Today, most blogging services provide a RSS feed for your readers. More than likely, if you’ll check into it you will discover the feed is already on your blog and you do not have to do anything. However, if your blogging service does not provide feeds for your readers than you can use your search engine to find one. Most of these services are free, and will provide you not only with an icon for your blog, but with several amenities such as, statistics. These benefits will give you detailed information about your readership, such as hits, visitors, page hits, and reader’s home country or region.

There are numerous RSS feed programs out there in cyberspace. All you have to do is little bit of research to find one, which is right for your needs. Most of these services are free and easy to use.

Conclusion

RSS readers are useful for individuals who visit many websites and weblogs on a daily basis. Having to dig through bookmarks or remember URLs can be frustrating, but does not have to be anymore. RSS readers will gather all the updated information from favorite’s sites and compile them for the subscribers, so all the information is now in one place.

Reading time: 3 – 4 minutes

Real Simple Syndication (RSS) is something that has become a means of improving trust. It’s not so much that the use of an RSS feed improves a consumer’s confidence in the product so much as it improves their confidence in your site.

Just like VeriSign is a standard of trust so too is an RSS feed. It is one of several components that can be included in your website that allows consumers to feel more confident that you are a business owner who is looking out for their best interests.

Why is RSS an indicator of trust?

One of the simplest reasons I know of is that RSS presents your content as authoritative and worth reviewing. If you didn’t believe in the value of the content you wouldn’t consider using RSS.

The residual benefit of using an RSS feed is that consumers can be alerted when new content is released. This can result in a positive traffic jam on your site.

When you have an RSS feed it also tells consumers that you are serious about providing new and useful content. It tells them you shake up the site regularly and they won’t have to worry about static information on your site. There are already too many of those never changing sites available. RSS indicates a promise that you will not to be one of them.

RSS can be applied to text content such as blog posts; knowledge based content or even new product pages. RSS can also be applied to any podcasting or video streaming you might make available.

Effectively this mechanism provides a means of encouraging interaction with those who were motivated enough to sign up for your RSS feed.

This function is a perfect companion to strategies you may be using as you work to develop consumer-centric strategies. RSS isn’t just for you to syndicate material it is designed to meet the needs of customers and bring them to your site.

Face it, the more impressions they have of your business the greater trust they can place in your business – unless you give them some reason to doubt your trustworthiness.

An RSS feed allows consumers to manage their interests and online activities. In some ways an RSS feed can be used in place of a typical bookmark. Content consumers will be alerted through their RSS reader every time you place something new online.

This concept mirrors major news syndication groups, but you bypass the printing press, the need for advertisers and the typical costs associated with syndication.

More and more power is being given to both consumers and business owners to do more in an online environment than a brick and mortar counterpart could ever hope to achieve.

For instance can you imagine the cost of a new direct mail message from a store in your downtown area being delivered the same day to everyone who has expressed an interest in being on that company’s standard mailing list?

It’s just not going to happen.

Use RSS to develop trust and a better sense of brand loyalty in your online store.

Reading time: 3 – 4 minutes

Who uses a Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feed? Maybe the better question is how many are not using RSS feeds?

Before we go any further let’s talk just briefly about what RSS is and why it’s important. Real Simple Syndication is a process that allows individuals to subscribe to content distribution. This is not like subscribing to email marketing or an ezine. This content is custom fed to your reader and viewable when you choose to listen, watch or read the content. That’s right, the content captured by a RSS reader is not confined to text information.

Say for instance you have a podcast you like to listen to; an RSS reader can capture the podcast and download it for quick listening when you’re ready.

OK, now that we’re past the primer, let’s get back to the subject at hand.

Who uses an RSS feed?

Your average information consumer thrives on RSS information, but there may be an even more interested group of users.

Many business bloggers have very specific RSS subscriptions. If a business blog is dependent on information about a very specific trade or business discipline they can, in turn, provide their readers with some of the most up to date information available.

Their RSS reader scours the Internet looking for the specific information the business owner requests. The information received through an RSS feeder can help the business bloggers establish themselves as trusted resources for quality information.

The truth is there is a two-step marketing plan that is happening when a business blogger uses an RSS feed to find information they can use. The first step is for the original writer of the article or the producer of the audio or visual content. The RSS feed is helping them reach a very specific segment of the online population that is motivated by the material they present. The second form of marketing is when the business blogger redistributes the information. It is marketing for both the business blogger as well as the individual or organization that supplied the original story.

If you are looking for fresh content for your blog or even your website you can utilize RSS through a free article directory that can allow you quick access to the latest content from a specific writer or on a specific topic.

The growth of RSS is incredible. You might even liken the service to something like a newspaper being delivered to your reader that only feature topics you’re interested in. This can be a great resource for business as well as an incredible time saver as you can bypass multiple online searches for the same information that can be direct delivered to your RSS reader.

The work of online business is already hard enough. That’s why using an RSS reader is a component that can enable you to have more available time to work on other marketing chores and business development.
A rather broad overview of RSS and some of the prime benefits of using the service for both consumer and marketer. Specific content subscribers want information on a specific topic. RSS feeds can skim to locate topics that are compatible with the subscribers preference settings irregardless of original writer.

Reading time: 3 – 4 minutes

The two primary dynamics at work with Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds are true subscribers and those who skim for specific content.

True subscribers are those that wish to read new content from your site or new content specifically created by an individual writer.

Specific content subscribers want information on a specific topic. RSS feeds can skim to locate topics that are compatible with the subscriber’s preference settings irregardless of original writer.

RSS readers are available for less than $30 and in some cases may be free with certain existing software applications.

If you have an RSS feed you make available to site visitors you may wish to invest in an RSS tracker. This application can help you analyze some of the stats related to those who may be subscribing to your RSS feed. Unlike email lists you will not be able to track who is accepting an RSS feed, but you will have access to other valuable information that may help you accelerate desired content and slim down on information less preferred. Two common RSS analytical tools are Silverpop and FeedBurner.

The use of inbound blog links can be helpful to the overall success of your RSS feed simply because as you pull information from other sites that information may be picked up in an RSS feed that may direct visitors to your site. These typically will be visitors that would not have known about your site previous to finding good information through your RSS feed.

The use of podcasts and video streams are another positive component to RSS feeds. If you produce a regular podcast or supply streaming video presentations this type of on-demand audio and video play well in an online world where immediacy is king.

RSS feeds can facilitate the complete download of podcasts so that when a subscriber logs in all they essentially have to do is hit their online play button.

If you have an affiliate marketing program and have significant affiliate you might suggest the affiliates sign up for RSS feeds so they can have the most immediate access to new information about products or selling points.

RSS feeds have an incredible amount of marketing potential, but like most online marketing strategies it is meaningless unless you take the time to learn more about the possibilities and how to implement them to the greatest benefit of your online business.

One of the most positive aspects of RSS feeds is that it can be as useful to entertainment marketers as it is to financial gurus and everything in between. The technology is the same, but the applications may be different. In all cases, the privacy of signing up for an RSS feed make it a positive for the consumer while remaining a positive for the marketer because while allowing customer confidentiality it also invites them to fully explore as much information as they want. When they’re ready, they will buy.

Reading time: 2 – 4 minutes

If you are a user who has found a Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feed to be of benefit, you are not alone. This tool is gaining a huge following. In fact, the new Windows Vista software comes equipped with an RSS Reader for those customers who have upgraded to the new Windows platform.

It can be frustrating to visit a site that does not provide RSS features. One of the primary reasons to subscribe to an RSS feed is to help you locate new information you really want to investigate. An RSS feed provides a snapshot of the revised information so you can make an educated decision about whether you want to read up on the latest informational feed.

If a site does not offer RSS it may still be possible to utilize existing information streams to access the same information through an RSS feed. For example, if you have a specific writer that you like to keep tabs on you can use an RSS feed from some of the more notable search engines and directories. By setting up an RSS feed from one of these sources you may be informed a little later than a direct RSS feed, but the information should be sent when the new page is indexed with your favorite author’s name. If the site the article is published on is a trusted site this process usually doesn’t take long.

Some RSS users also are merging their RSS feeds with searchable email systems. In essence when a service like Gmail is used to receive RSS email feeds you can use their search function to return to any popular feed you wish.

The integration of technologies can allow RSS users greater flexibility in accessing and managing feeds and accessing the information long-term.

For any online company the markets using knowledge-based content it just makes sense to add an RSS feed for your site material. Unless your material is so engaging you have site visitors that come back everyday on their own you should consider using an RSS feed as a marketing tool to help your consumers find a reasons to come back. When they come back they might find a reason to stay and shop.

An RSS feed is less intrusive than email and targets consumers who have an interest in your material. You know this because they have voluntarily signed up for an RSS feed from your site.

It’s been proven over and over again, your customers want an RSS feed. Have you make one available?

This article provides an introduction to what RSS feeds are designed to do and how the end-user determines what information they want and how to accesses the information.

Reading time: 2 – 4 minutes

You don’t have to look far to find the initials RSS on many of your favorite websites. Maybe you see the term “RSS Feed” and wonder if this is a special agricultural product for livestock or possibly something you’d purchase at an electronics shop.

The initials RSS actually stand for ‘Really Simply Syndication’. Some in the technical field also use the initials to correlate with ‘Rich Site Summary’ or ‘RDF Site Summary’.

No matter what you call it, RSS is a means of reducing online searches for regularly desired information in articles, stories, blogs or other specialty information sites.

RSH: Really Simple History

RSS, as we know it, was unleashed just after Christmas 1997 and has been improved upon many times since its inception.

The World at Your Fingertips

In the simplest of terms RSS allows you to select categories of interest and you will be alerted when new content has been discovered. This information is collected and sent on to you for your consideration.

For instance if you have a site you regularly review an RSS feed allows you first-hand notification when new material is available.

Those who do not use RSS feeds are forever conducting online searches to find the information they desire. An RSS feed eliminates the frustration.

The Use of RSS

In order to use an RSS feed you need a feed reader. In most cases this software application will appear similar to an email account. While the software can be purchased it is also possible to find free versions online.

One of the benefits for the end-user is the fact that unlike email you do not need to receive unwanted material. With email you have to opt in and opt out. With an RSS feed you can change the settings whenever you want and receive only the information you desire.

Most RSS readers also provide the requested material in a simplified text format allowing the material to be read without photos and unwanted formatting.

Typically a cut-and-paste of an appropriate website link and a list of predetermined topics is all that is needed to have your RSS reader search for articles related to your interest.

A RSS feed allows you to opt in and opt out without the service you are interested in having to manage a list. An RSS feed also allows you to be as specific as you need to be in the subject matter you want to read.

Really Simple Growth

While RSS feeds are becoming more readily available you should know that not all websites are equipped to provide this service. Look for the orange box with the RSS inside to insure availability.
