Get Over Your New PageRank!

Some of us went up, some of us didn’t and some of us went down. Thus is the nature of Google PageRank. While this is not wholly a point of vanity like star rank on MyLot, most of you are making a bigger deal of it than it is.

Secondly I am sick and fucking tired of all the whining about how you worked so hard to write quality content and Google didn’t jump you as high as some of us, or in fact dropped your page rank. Get over it people, Google doesn’t give a damn about your witty repartee or insights. Google uses a computer algorithm to decide your page rank not a visit by Zagats. I can see that review now.

“Your layout is harsh on the eyes so only 3 stars there. Your content wording was smooth like pudding, but the double entendre was too much for a weak stomach making for only 2.5 stars. Your lack of proper nofollow techniques and duplicate content gave us the runs…

In the end, content only matters to the people reading your blog. The mindless, brainless, tasteless, and unintelligent computers look at all the other stuff, weigh what they see, and spit out a number based on it. If your PageRank went down you have only yourself to blame for not doing a good enough job making it presentable to Google.

  1. Google also ranks blogs differently than static websites.

I wrote a very detailed article about it on my blog, definitely worth a look.

Things like how many subscriber you have in Google reader, who is in your blogroll and how many blogrolls you are in.

All the data is taken from the Google patent. Not conjecture, Googles own words, originally blogged about by Andy Beard and seomoz.org.

  3. Hey Chris, thanks for the comment.  How new is your blogroll data?  I have heard varying answers to the weight of the blogroll questions of late.  In fact I have looked at several blogs that went from 0 to 4 and none of them had blogrolls and almost everyone who said their went down this time that I looked at had a blogroll.  I am sure there are other things in the mix there, but those did stand out for me.

  4. another snarky bit of snark out of you.  I
