Reading time: 6 – 10 minutes

Most webmasters today hardly have enough time to manage their web business and like to outsource most things which can be outsourced effectively. Outsourcing a web design or a service like SEO saves precious time and money when done correctly. The challenge most webmasters face today is finding the correct outsourcing partner. One who is well qualified to carry out the job, has the necessary references of past work experience and is also affordable. This article is an attempt to guide webmasters to correctly outsource SEO services.

The SEO Outsourcing checklist:

1. Does the SEO Company/Professional you are hiring have a pre-formed plan for how they plan to execute your project?

2. Are they professionally qualified and do they have any third party certification which can be verified by you?

3. Do they have a website where you can examine their credentials, prices, testimonials, SEO package details?

4. Do they have contact details on their website like a phone number and physical address (not a P.O box)?

5. What are their hourly rates and how many hours are they committing to your project?

6. Have they clearly specified all applicable charges upfront – for example, link subscription charges, post ranking maintenance charges etc.?

7. And most importantly, do they practise ethical white hat SEO? This is very important unless you want your site to get banned.

These are some of the pertinent questions you should ask when it comes to outsourcing you project. Most professional and reputed SEO’s / SEO firms will fulfill all the above requirements.

In addition to the above, you should ask your provider if your SEO service includes the following:

1. Site Visitor Usability and SE Indexability Analysis:

a. How user friendly is your website?

b. How Search Engine friendly is your website?

c. Does it have a clear navigation menu?

d. Does it have a Sitemap?

e. Is Important information easily accessible to the visitor?

f. Is there Javascript on your site? Does it contain Framed pages? etc.

2. Log file Analysis:

a. How much time are your visitors spending on your site?

b. Are they leaving in less than 10 seconds and why?

c. What are the pages they are viewing most?

d. Which keywords are visitors using to find your site?

e. Which Search Engines and other sites are referring the most visitors?

f. What are error pages are your visitors coming across? etc.

3. Keyword Analysis:

a. Are you using the right keywords for your site?

b. What is the search volume of your chosen keywords?

c. What is the KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index) of your keywords?

d. How many keywords are you targeting for your entire site and what is your keyword sitemap (which keywords will be used on which page)?

e. Are you using synonyms and other keyword variants?

4. SEO Analysis:

a. Preliminary assessment report and competition analysis which should contain relevant information about who are your competitors, why they are ranking better than you and other details about your site like link popularity, Authority links, Trustrank links etc.

b. On page factors on your site that need to be changed or added, for example – meta tags, robots.txt, link anchor text, alt text etc.

c. Copywriting content for SEO

d. ILQ (incoming link quality) analysis

e. Creating additional content pages and rearranging existing pages if needed

5. Final Analysis and Recommendations Report:

a. To recommend step by step changes and actions needed from above 4 reports

b. Form a clear Action plan for executing recommended changes and a road map and timeline for it.

6. Follow up with Monthly Progress Reports and Ranking change reports:

a. Monthly progress reports should mention the details of the activity the SEO has carried out in the previous month for the client, the number of hours spent, links exchanged, links bought etc.

b. Ranking reports should indicate previous month rankings compared to past months for all keywords and the top pages.

7. Project Completion:

a. Finally, after desired rankings have been achieved, the SEO Company or SEO professional hired should provide a post-SEO recommendation Report for maintaining necessary rankings which should include the details of actions the webmaster needs to take to keep rankings intact, for example – paid link subscriptions that need to be paid monthly, article writing and distribution that needs to be done etc. If you have agreed to sign up for a post-SEO maintenance plan, this would be a good time to sign a fresh contract for a preset period – say 6 months or 1 year.

b. If the project was outsourced through a freelancers site like Elance.com, Guru.com, Scriptlance.com, Getafreelancer.com etc. make sure that you leave a truthful and accurate rating for the SEO company or freelancer you hired. This will help other webmasters evaluate them in the future.

c. All payment related transactions should be sorted out and payments due to the SEO firm, if any, should be made promptly.

Adhering to the above 7 steps and using them at the pre-bidding stage will ensure that you and your SEO company are on the same page, and they can then give you a more accurate quote for your job. This will provide you a complete SEO Solution.

We estimate that carrying out a full SEO job (including reporting) for a website, takes between 50-100 man hours of work for normal small business websites, 100-200 hours of work for a mid sized site and 200-300 hours of work for a large business site (depending on the keywords, quantum of work, type of site, backlinks, current rankings etc). These hours are generally spread over 3 – 6 months as achieving sustainable rankings takes time. If you are unsure about the number of hours that may be needed for your site, it is better to consult with a professional SEO firm beforehand. Most Search Engine Optimization companies will gladly give you a free estimate on the number of hours of work needed for optimizing your site and getting top ten rankings. Once you know that your site, for example, needs between 50-75 hours of SEO work, make sure that you mention this fact in your pre-bid stage as well. This will help avoid any misunderstanding later.

Most amateurs quote ridiculously low prices for SEO jobs on the freelance sites as A) they are not sure of the quantum of work involved, B) they are not qualified to carry it out, C) their definition of SEO is changing a few meta tags and other basic on page SEO factors, and/or D) they may still be in school/college freelancing part time for some extra pocket money. As a result – they muck up their client’s site and also waste their precious time. They can also get your site banned by trying black hat tactics as they do not have a reputation to protect.

The following should raise red flags:

- those who charge less than $20/hour

- promise to complete your job in 15/30 days

- estimate less than 50 hours of work

- have no website/blog

- cannot provide you references of real people (past clients).

- have no qualification/certification

- do not provide their telephone number and address

- cannot show you the top rankings they have achieved

One thing webmasters must remember is “if you pay peanuts, you will only get monkeys”. So, it always pays to hire a professional <a href="http://www.seobay.com"target="_new" rel="nofollow" >SEO Company for your important business website.

When a company begins considering embarking on a search engine optimization campaign, it has two choices: handle the campaign in house or hire an outsourced SEO firm to take over the job. A company considering the in-house approach may not realize how much time and energy is required to implement a successful campaign. Learn more about why it may make sense to outsource the project to a reputable SEO firm.

Reading time: 5 – 8 minutes

When a company is considering embarking upon a search engine optimization campaign, the first discussion that normally is had is whether to take care of the campaign in house or to hire an outside SEO firm. Handling an SEO campaign in house is an attractive and popular option for many companies after all, the staff is already being paid to perform other functions, so the company might as well use its resources. In addition, a company may in fact have technically savvy people on staff that know at least a little bit about SEO, making the choice to take the campaign in house appear to be a no-brainer. But the real issue is how to compare the actual cost of an in-house campaign if you are expecting the same type of results that you would get with an outside SEO firm.

In House or Outsourced – Consider Your Resources

There are several basic assumptions that can be made about any company that is interested in SEO in general. First, the company likely wants to see immediate results from the campaign – or, at the very least, results as soon as possible in the organic search engine rankings. Quick results, by necessity, mean that the company has to have immediate skill available on hand.

And immediate skill, it is important to recognize, means something different than having a staff member who has a technical background but who will take several months to learn about SEO and the best way to go about it before starting a campaign from scratch. In this case, there is no way the company will get results for several months – or longer. Meanwhile, an SEO firm that has experience and expertise and that specializes in this very specific discipline can begin the project on day one and bring results far more quickly.

In addition, a company will want to ensure minimal risk to its website. However, in order to make sure that the site is not placed in jeopardy of being penalized by one of the major engines, the person running the campaign must have experience with SEO and must be well versed in the terms of service of those engines. Again, handing off the project to someone with no or little experience in SEO can backfire because he or she may risk introducing dangerous changes onto your site based on outdated information or simply on a lack of understanding.

Analyzing Your Company’s Situation – What’s Your True ROI?

At this stage, a company that wants to take its SEO campaign in house needs to analyze its situation. Does the company have someone on staff right now with extensive SEO experience, preferably with an SEO firm? Moreover, does that person, assuming he or she exists, have the time to devote in his or her schedule to begin undertaking the SEO campaign immediately? Bear in mind that an SEO campaign is not something that can be worked on as a side project or in someone’s spare time, particularly when that person has a primary job function with which to be concerned. SEO takes a great deal of time and management in order to not only achieve results but also to maintain and improve those results over time. You also need to determine whether this person has the clout – or access to those who have the clout – to get the necessary changes to the website made and to get buy in for the entire SEO initiative.

If your company cannot answer a solid yes to all of the above questions, then you need to compare the relative costs. It is likely that your company has a finite budget for this initiative – everyone does. Therefore, the company must determine if it can afford to bring a full-time expert in SEO onto the staff – someone who generally commands a salary of near or above six figures – or to pay an existing staff person to handle the project. On the other hand, an SEO firm with an excellent reputation can cost around $30,000 per year for full optimization of your website.

But this issue goes beyond cost and also encompasses your total return on investment. Even if you have a person on staff with extensive SEO experience and a great deal of time to devote to an SEO project, and even if they have the clout to get changes implemented on the site, they still will only be working on one site (along with any other job functions with which they need to be concerned). On the other hand, an SEO firm will have many sites – possibly hundreds – to work on, which means that it will constantly be staying current with all of the best methodologies and will be able to immediately apply new tactics to these sites to get the best possible results. Plus, the SEO firm will not have other functions to take care of, because SEO is its entire focus.

Conclusion

There are, of course, companies that successfully handle SEO campaigns in house. But when an SEO campaign falls to somebody that already has a separate job function and that is new to SEO, it can take much longer to get things started than it would when working with an SEO firm hired for this specific purpose. In addition, an internal person cannot necessarily guarantee that a site will not get penalized – the terms of service for the major engines are constantly changing, and it’s the job of the SEO firm to stay on top of this. What’s legal today may be illegal the next day, and an internal staff member may not have the resources to know what has changed.

Finally, it is important, when comparing the cost of outsourcing to an SEO firm vs. handling the campaign in house, to make a real comparison of the actual cost involved in terms of your company’s annual spend based on hours, ROI, and the opportunity cost due to the length of the campaign – whether it’s handed off to a new, inexperienced person or to someone with an SEO background who has other duties to attend to. And in the end, let’s face it – if you’re not getting the results you want, it’s always much easier to end a contract with an outside SEO firm than it is to fire someone internally.

I am always interested in the reasons people give for certain thoughts and I have heard many regarding how complicated search engine optimization (SEO) can be - especially for non-seo professionals. But I must say that I have not found this opinion to be true regarding search engine optimization.

Reading time: 4 – 6 minutes

The first myth I would like to focus on regarding search engine optimization is the myth that revolves around the notion that search engine optimization (SEO) is complicated.

I am always interested in the reasons people give for certain thoughts and I have heard many regarding how complicated search engine optimization (SEO) can be – especially for non-seo professionals. But I must say that I have not found this opinion to be true regarding search engine optimization.

I do not feel that search engine optimization (SEO) is complicated.

I know many people who have achieved great search engine rankings using SEO, including myself, and most have stated that using search engine optimization on their websites was not complicated. At times some stated that depending on what they were doing it took time to complete the SEO work; but seo being complicated – no.

I tend to feel that if individuals have an average amount of computer knowledge and skills and they have good SEO information that they can use to guide them through the SEO work process, they will not have any problems concerning search engine optimization.

Basically, it is not search engine optimization that makes SEO work difficult; it is the lack of access to good information concerning SEO that can make search engine optimization (SEO) appear to be much more difficult than it actually is in all honesty.

SEO work can take time to complete depending on the level of detail involved; but it is not brain surgery.

Now can anyone do SEO? the answer is no; however, the people who would have trouble doing SEO work are the same people who would have trouble completing a large variety of computer related tasks.

Generally, if an individual can operate a computer well enough to follow instructions to install software, they usually can complete seo work successfully provided they have good instructions and information.

Search engine optimization work is not as simple and/or as quick as adding a few meta tags; but search engine optimization is not nearly as hard and time consuming as you might have been lead to believe from prior discussions and/or from information you have read concerning SEO.

I feel the main reason that some people portray search engine optimization (SEO) as being complicated concerns the amount of money that is generated directly and indirectly from the utilization of search engine optimization (SEO).

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a multi million-dollar industry.

Great organic(free) search engine results literally help generate billions of dollars each year for website owners and search engine optimization is a beneficial technique in helping to achieve those organic(free) search engine rankings.

It is no wonder with billions of internet sales and advertising dollars available on a yearly bases that search engine optimization (SEO) which can provide an individual or company a competitive edge in the ultra high pace internet world will attract a variety of opinions, ideas, supporters and detractors.

Moreover, through a combination of perception and reality that highlights search engine optimization as a key to increasing internet sales, search engine optimization is a very popular topic for decision makers within many companies and frankly if these individuals along with the general internet community can be convenience that search engine optimization is complicated then many of these people will decide to outsource SEO related services, hire search engine optimization employees and/or contract consultants to complete their search engine optimization work. Thus, money is a key player in how search engine optimization is portrayed in the media, inside the seo industry and at large within the general internet community.

If used properly search engine optimization can help to achieve a higher search engine ranking for a website.

Many people are almost afraid and/or in awe of SEO because much of the information concerning search engine optimization (SEO) is not shared with the general public, which has created a cloud of mystery around the entire industry. Therefore, the average person does not understand search engine optimization and/or its benefits because of this situation.

However, the lack of good information should be expected considering the current competitive nature of business on the internet and the amount of money that can be earned from achieving good search engine rankings for a website.

It is worth pointing that RSS feeds from big publishers are normally updated in hourly or daily basis. Remember that when the publisher inserts a new article to the feed, the oldest article is deleted.

Reading time: 14 – 24 minutes

In few ways RSS is pretty much identical to HTML, the language normally put in place to create websites. As is the case with HTML, webmasters opting for traditional search engine optimization techniques when creating an RSS feed will come to know that their RSS feed is getting additional exposure and interest.

Below mentioned measures can go a long way in optimizing an RSS feed for search engines:

1.) First and foremost, the title should consist of pivotal search terms.

In simple terms, the title should be up to the mark and not misleading, while still pinpointing keywords. In an ideal scenario, the title should generate curiosity among the readers to read on, not mislead them.

2.) Secondly, it is of utmost significance that you display RSS feeds properly.

Theoretically speaking, majority of webmasters display their feeds as content on their website. Remember to use PHP, ASP or HTML when displaying a feed, as this can lead search engines to spider the contents of the feed displayed. On the other hand, if you are using a template to display feeds, it is advisable to use header tags to emphasize the appearance of the Channel Title and Item Titles. It is worth pointing that few search engines weight header tags with more significance.

3.) Get accustomed with the concept of internal & external Links.

According to experts, within a feed you should always opt for the full path of any links, keeping in perspective that other sites may syndicate the contents of the RSS feed. Furthermore, links that are not local to the site should be open in a new browser. This process though not specific to search engines but it will play a prominent role in keeping visitors on your site.

4.) Link text should pinpoints keywords.

There is no denying the fact that the text used for incoming links will give a boost to the site in terms of helping it in contextually defining the keywords that the site appears for in the search engines. Keeping that into account, it is quite mandatory to use keywords in any link text that roll back to your website.

5.) Concept of My.Yahoo and My.MSN.

This is very straightforward to implement but often overlooked by publishers and webmasters. In theory, the quickest way to have an RSS feed spidered by Yahoo or MSN is to include the feed on a personal my.yahoo or my.msn home page. You just need to register an account on the respective search engines. Then comes the next step of customizing the home page to include your RSS feed. This is normally been implemented by inserting content and listing the URL to the RSS feed. Normally, within 1-2 days the feed’s contents will be spidered and indexed by Yahoo and MSN.

6.) What is theme feeds?

It is quite pivotal that feeds should be themed. This is pretty significant as it will help with themed links back to a publisher’s website from anyone syndicating the feed’s content.

7.) How to increase link popularity?

You can enhance link popularity by submitting the RSS feed, blog or podcast to the appropriate directories. It is worth pointing that these directories offer submissions of specific kinds of RSS feeds. Thats why, be clear in your mind to follow the guidelines of each site and choose categories wisely.

8.) What is RSS feed descriptions?

RSS feed descriptions can be termed as the general summaries or introductions to other content. Nine out of ten times, feed creators will offer additional input on an HTML site, creating curiosity among the visitors to click through for the full detail if it is a topic that is of interest to them. But for that to happen, it is pivotal that you provide number of teaser copy that the visitor can easily discern if the contents are something that is pivotal to them.

9.) Getting the feel of subscribing to feeds.

Though seem straightforward at first glance, but fact remained that a surprisingly huge chunk of publishers do not subscribe to their own feed. In an ideal scenario, this is an ideal way to get the feel of your clients and innovating with formatting and integrating HTML into feeds.

10.) Increasing your corporate identity with image ads.

It is advisable to insert your corporate logo to your RSS feed. In addition, create a brand and give the overview of that brand by including the image in the RSS feed. In simple terms, the image will increase your corporate identity as well as dress up the look of your feed by inserting your corporate logo.

11.) Alphabetical rank is essential.

Few feed readers list feeds alphabetically in the reader. Because of this reason feed channels that begin with A will normally appear in the top of the feed list in majority of feed readers. In case if you are interested in appearing in the top of list of feeds that a reader has registered to, keep this point in mind.

12.) Concept of meaningful links

It is quite mandatory that each item in your feed should consist of a unique URL attached with it. This will give direction to users to attached inputs. You can find using target URLs with the “#” symbol in the link to get accustomed with the fact that this content is very useful.

There is no denying that majority of marketers have a love-hate relationship with search engines. Search engines can make the most confident Webmaster looks insipid. But following above-mentioned steps can give you a much-needed cushion in optimizing feeds for search engines.

Search engine optimization

If you are dealing in website marketing, role of search engines is quite pivotal in your success. Theoretically speaking, they are the most crucial way to bring traffic to your website. But for that to happen, it is quite mandatory that you understand the working of search engines and their requirements.

In simple terms, there are two types of search engines: active and passive. An active engine makes full use of crawl technology that constantly searches out websites, inserts them to its database and most importantly come up with listings automatically with what it finds. On the other hand passive engines need registration of your website directly with them. In addition, they rely on editors to insert your site to their directory. As search engines have started making its presence felt, few have adopted a combination of passive and active techniques.

Definition

Search engine optimization can be defined as the utilization of techniques that will result in your website being identified and included in the database of search engines. There are tried and tested methods to search engine marketing containing website design and content adaptation, and keyword strategy. Fact remained that the main objective of these methods is to bring traffic to your site. Furthermore, the secondary objective is for that traffic to be targeted to your product/ services. In the World Wide Web marketing game, exposure is of paramount importance. Remember that marketing efficiency needs effective exposure to the right prospects.

All in all, search engine optimization is all about taking your site to the pinnacle of success in search engine rankings. In present day scenario, everyone wants and has an online site about any goods or service they are offering. As a matter of fact, if you want to sell something to the general public, it is essential that you must have a website. In this fast paced world, time is of essence to everyone. More often than not, people do not have the time to go to stores to check out and purchase any goods/ services that they required. For these people, the Internet has become the market place to buy anything. It is worth pointing that fast and simple accessibility is what people prefer when buying in the Internet. Thats why, Internet can turn out to be the best source for you to sell your goods and services.

Search engine optimization: Pivotal for online success

Though, you have a site that contains all relevant information about your business, but fact of the matter is how many people know about your site. And this is where search engine optimization comes in. Search engine optimization employ certain techniques that can be pretty helpful in popularizing your website. Remember that you have to tell everyone regarding your site as well as its features. Search engines have a crucial role to play in your quest for success in your online business.

There are plenty of things that can be implemented for search engine optimization of your site. First and foremost, link building is the most popular and the most effective way for popularizing your site very fast. But for that to happen, it is crucial to search in the Internet and identify those sites that deal with identical product to yours. In other word, this clearly emphasizes that your link will be placed on those sites, and people who visit that site can actually come to your site by following that link. Always remember that one way inbound links are more advantageous for your site.

Secondly, blogging is also an effective route for you to become visible in the Internet. However, the key to blogging is to write top-notch blogs about different properties of the product/ services that you are offering. In case if your blogs are written in very concise and simple manner, your site is bound to attain popularity. As a matter of fact, people will even start discussing about your site in various forums. You can imagine how much you can gain from this exercise. Therefore, just go ahead and start blogging and enhance the popularity of you and your site.

No one can deny the fact that search engines are the kings in the web. Thats why, if you want your site to be a success story, you have to do something to increase your reputation among various search engines. For this to happen you will certainly require high rankings in search engines. Remember that search engines give rankings to websites after judging them on various parameters set by them. Search engine spiders also termed as bots crawl my many identifies if they are meeting all search engine eligibility criteria or not. On the basis of this process, websites are given rankings by search engines. And furthermore it is this ranking that gives you an overview of how your site is doing in the web.

Apart from that, there are plenty of other factors for you to gain popularity in search engines. A recent study has clearly pinpointed that most of the people using the web take the cue from search engines to gather information about any thing in the web. Thats why, if you are in top of the ranking you will be listed at the top of search findings when someone search for information regarding your product and service. This in turn leads to popularity of your site and more selling of your products and services.
Before you opt for any search engine optimization method for your site, it is of utmost significance that you know what you are exactly doing. It is advisable to collect as much information as you can about any process that you are interested in for the purpose of search engine optimization of your website. Fact remained that this is your site and you must know everything that has something to do with your site. After all the success of your business depends on this.

Skills required for search engine optimization

Since search engine optimization is still considered to be a new thing, plenty of business organizations think it is mandatory to hire search engine optimization firms to handle the online marketing part of their businesses. But the question now arises: What if you cant afford to hire the services of search engine optimization firms? Furthermore, what if youre just entering into the business and you dont have enough funds for additional advertising? If this is the case, you have no option other than to do it yourself.
But dont treat it as a burden because fact of the matter is search engine optimization is quite straightforward, contrary to the belief that it is a hard grinding task. No denying that you have to practice hard before you can take full benefits of search engine results for your website or business but its at least a very possible and achievable task. But for that to happen, you must know the types of skills required for better implementation of search engine optimization.

What is your target Market?

If you are interested in search engine optimization for your website, it is quite mandatory that you are aware of your target market. As the Internet is such a big place to roam around, it is essential that you know your target market. This in turn leads to more visitors for your target market because they can easily get accustomed with your service and can give you a feedback.

All important content of your Ad

Lets just assume you know your target audience already and everything that is there in the site are in proper order and impressing the visitor to buy the product. But the fact remained that how do they get to your website initially? And thats where the role of search engine optimization is very important. By following this route, its a guarantee that your website would get more visitors.

But always remember that that its the content of your ad that will put your website on top of MSN and Google searches. As number of companies chooses to use text ads because of its shorter length and economic nature, its your responsibility to maximize the content of your ad. In an ideal scenario, make sure that youre able to depict your message in the shortest, precise and most efficient way possible.

The concept of Keywords

There is no denying that keyword is one of the major parameters affecting search engine optimization. In case if you are interested in optimizing searches done by MSN, Google or Yahoo, you have to ensure that the keyword list you are implementing under your companys name should be identical to the keywords of your target market.

When talking about keywords, only two things count: spelling and relevance. Theoretically speaking, make sure that you include keywords in their correct spellings and of course, it has to be relevant.

RSS Feeds helping to improve Search Engine Optimization and Ranking

RSS is fast becoming a buzzword for a proper search engine optimization. But the question now arises: What exactly is RSS?

RSS or Rich Site Syndication or Really Simple Syndication is a type of file format identical to XML, and is implemented by publishers to make their content available to other people. The best part about this format is that everyone can understand it quite easily. In addition, RSS offers the listing of articles on third party websites, RSS newsreaders, and the like, giving rise to simple distribution of a website’s content across the Internet. In other word, RSS can be termed as a form of content syndication, using distribution lists, hyperlinks and the like to create curiosity among people, which in turn leads to increased traffic in your website.

RSS is not the new term, as a matter of fact it has been there for so many years, but with the advent of spam filters and online blogging, it is fast becoming a necessity for ezine publishers that are interested in getting their message across to their members.
Despite all this, not much emphasis has been given to the benefits RSS offers for search engine optimization, until now.

The question now arises: Why Search Engines Love RSS?

Majority of SEO experts is of the view that that sites optimized around themes, or niches, where all pages depicts one particular subject or set of keywords are bound to fare better in search engines as compared to the website dealing with plenty of subjects and different keywords. For instance, if your website is specifically designed to sell gadgets, your entire site content would be focused around gadgets.

It is worth pointing that search engines such as Google seem to prefer tightly themed pages.
But million-dollar question is: Where does RSS come in all this?

Remember that RSS feeds, normally sourced from newsfeeds or blogs, often pinpoint to a particular theme or niche.
And thats where you can increase your sites content without a need of writing on your own, by opting for highly targeted RSS feeds.
It will give you an impression that you have hired content writer that is writing for you but in actual sense you have not. Furthermore, you are getting all this free of cost.

How can RSS improve your Search Engine Rankings?

In simple terms, there are three main parameters why content from RSS Feeds is so much advantageous for search engine spiders.

1. RSS Feeds offer Immediate Themed Content

There are plenty of publishers of RSS feeds that are focused to a particular theme.
As the feed is highly targeted in nature, it could consist of number of keywords that you want to rank highly for.

Inserting these keywords to your pages plays a pivotal part in Google tagging your site as one with relevant content.

2. RSS Feeds offers new and regularly updated Content

Theoretically speaking, this is the most significant feature of RSS. It is worth pointing that RSS feeds from big publishers are normally updated in hourly or daily basis. Remember that when the publisher inserts a new article to the feed, the oldest article is deleted.
Furthermore, these modifications are instantly updated on your pages with the RSS feed as well. Thats why you new and updated relevant content for your visitors every hour or day. Few of the search engines like Google and Yahoo have come to a conclusion that the relevancy algorithm historically used to rank pages is not a good option. In an ideal scenario, they do no not show correct results. Because of this reason they have added parameter like freshness to judge the page rank.

A simple example can illustrate this point better. In case if you were to do a search for the key phrase “Football”, you would likely to get a large chunk of articles. In that case just take two articles for the purpose of simplification. Let’s assume both articles contain the phrase “Football” the same number of times, have the same number of inbound links, and all else is more or less identical between the two articles. As a matter of fact the only difference between the two is that one article was written 10 days ago and the other was written yesterday. In that scenario, it would be difficult to find out which one would be more likely to contain the information for which you are looking?

Well, by taking the help of relevancy algorithm, both articles will appear equally relevant. Though, fact remained that it is not the case because obviously the newer article is more likely to give you the fresh information, which you are looking for. Due to this reason the search engines have come up with a freshness component to their ranking repertoire- in an effort to offer the best results to their users, they should not only offer you relevant articles but fresh one as well. Thats why, at the moment, the most recent article (or most frequently updated website) would be listed on top as compared to the less frequently updated website.

The question now arises: Does this make sense? The answer is yes. By following this route, you can easily understand why a proper search engine optimization will include the use of fresh content such as an RSS feed, apart from an optimization for key phrase relevancy.

Reading time: 4 – 7 minutes

You hear all the time about bad SEOs. Bad SEOs are offering worthless services, failing to deliver on their internet marketing promises, polluting the search engine resultswell, a lot of bad things. But how much ever gets said about bad SEOs’ spiritual counterparts: bad SEO clients?

As an SEO, I can see things from the other side of the table. You see, despite trying hard to make it clear I’m a good, ethical, results-oriented, smarter marketing, white-hat SEO, I have gotten no end of inquiries from bad prospective SEO clients. Sure, no one who gets cheated is ever entirely to blame, and some cheated businesses are entirely blameless. But the bad SEOs would have too small a market to stay in business if it weren’t for almost-as-bad clients.

Shades of Bad SEO Clients

First, let me make clear what I mean by bad SEOs. Bad SEOs are bad because they either do unethical things to get e-marketing results, or because they consistently fail to deliver results. A good SEO delivers results and does it without trampling over other people’s rights (like submitting automated comments to their websites or trying to get good sites de-indexed).

A bad SEO client, in turn, is someone who will only be satisfied (albeit temporarily) with a bad SEO. Because they refuse to consider ethical web consultants or smarter marketing strategies, they are creating markets for the e-marketing charlatans and black-hats. There are two basic types of bad SEO clients: crooks and fool–oops, I mean, ethically challenged and judgmentally-challenged.

Ethically-Challenged SEO Clients

I haven’t gotten so many inquiries asking for out-and-out unethical services. Still, I’ve been asked about blog-sp@mming software and other shady internet marketing tactics a couple times. A colleague shared this gem with me: Have you thought about just scanning a book from the library and using it for web content? Or is that too high-risk? (Seriously, someone asked him this.)

Of course, judging from the amount of comment sp@m and SEO-motivated hacking on the web, there is plenty of demand for this stuff.

Judgmentally-Challenged SEO Clients

A much larger group of bad SEO clients are simply those who insist on putting themselves in the way of fraud. Yes, that’s right: I’m blaming the victim. Someone who goes looking for a $5 gold watch can’t cry too long if the watch turns out to be fake or hot. With SEO, there are a few more nuances, but it’s the same essential idea.

The overwhelming majority of these judgmentally challenged souls are private individuals whose only business is the business-in-a-kit variety. Yet they are also sometimes representatives of actual successful companies. The real businesspeople tend to be quicker to let their misconceptions go (after all, they can afford the real SEO alternatives), but not always. Let’s look at some representative types of this group, straight out of my own inbox (note: these are inquiries from prospects, not actual clients).

Something-for-(Little More than)-Nothing Clients

Really, I tend to think these people should be in the ethically challenged group, but maybe that’s just the remnant of my work ethic making me be mean There are actually two kinds of these clients:

The ambitious but cheap client: I’d like to get to the top of Google for the keyword, ‘mortgage’ so I can turn over $100,000/month in revenue. I can spend up to $1,000.

The Adsense-is-my-business-plan client: you wouldn’t believe the numbers of inquiries I get from people who only plan to make money off Adsense or other on-site advertisingthey don’t even have a plan for getting repeat traffic, nor do they have content to synergize with the SEO effort. By buying promotional services, they would essentially be buying advertising in order to make money off advertisingyou see where that could be a problem?

Another way of looking at it: why wouldn’t I just create a site myself and keep all the profit from my efforts? In fact, most SEOs do have their own project sites, which are often monetized by Adsense. The money we could otherwise get from Adsense is one very low baseline for pricing our services. Legitimate SEO clients are typically selling goods or services at a profit rate that works out to ten or more times what they could get from Adsense.

In addition to the greedy, I also see a few other kinds of less common, but still problematic prospective SEO clients:

SEO-Starry-Eyed Clients: Search engine traffic is definitely the best way for me to get pet-sitting clients in my tiny Himalayan village.

The Little-Knowledge-Is-a-Dangerous-Thing Client: Don’t tell me about keyword research, content, anchor text, or natural linking strategy, just get me the PageRank (or links, keyword density, or whatever the fad is).

Gullible-and-Not-Letting-Go Client: I know of at least two services that will submit my site to thousands of search engines for $29.95. If you can’t do that, I’ll take my business elsewhere.

I-Will-Never-Trust-SEO-But-I’ll-Consider-It-Anyway Client: No one can guarantee a good search engine ranking so this is all pointlessI’ll just go with that $29.95 search engine submission package someone just emailed me about. At least it’s cheap.

In short, if you are going to find good SEO web consultants, you need: 1) realistic expectations; 2) a realistic budget; 3) solid information. Don’t expect something for nothing, do a little reading, and it’s much less likely you’ll fall victim to bad SEOs.

Reading time: 4 – 6 minutes

If your company has selected or will select an SEO vendor to optimize your corporate website for natural search, I offer you kudos for embarking on a process that can generate tremendous revenue for your business. Now, the fun part begins. You’ll need to oversee and evaluate a process that is hard to comprehend, has somewhat intangible deliverables, and where the “timing of results” can’t be precisely defined. Given this scenario, how can you best work with an SEO to achieve the best outcome for your website?

Make SEO a Marketing Priority. On some engagements, the SEO is almost entirely self-sufficient. On others, he or she might depend on the director of marketing, the president, the web designer or IT support to help facilitate the SEO effort. Some of these folks might not see the value of the optimization and don’t view SEO related efforts as a priority. If you can let your team know the critical nature of the work (and your SEO should be willing to help in this effort), the expected results should be achieved that much faster.

Learn enough about SEO in order to ask good questions. Over time, the talented stable of Search Engine Marketing writers at Search Engine Guide have produced a large number of articles covering almost every aspect of the SEO process. Read up. Become familiar with the terminology and concepts. At minimum, you need to be conversant enough to evaluate the metrics of the campaign.

But don’t tell your SEO how to do the work. Too much knowledge can be a dangerous thing for some clients because they lack the experience to place their knowledge within the context of the whole SEO process. Such clients may even feel empowered enough to tell their SEO vendor to take a course of action that will damage their efforts to obtain targeted natural search traffic. But if you have done proper due diligence in choosing a knowledgeable and ethical SEO expert, you shouldn’t have any trouble staying on the right track. Your chosen professional will probably be appreciative that you’ve educated yourself about the process and will be glad to answer your “tough” questions. All reputable SEO vendors should be open and transparent about their methods and work process…don’t work with any that aren’t. And if you are comfortable with your SEO expert, the value of his or her experience should be easily discernible.

Good SEO advice can smell funny. Bad SEO advice stinks. Sometimes it has been a challenge explaining the merits of link-exchange or RSS feeds to SEO novices. Many marketing professionals have cringed when I’ve recommended having at least 250 words on the website home page. Fortunately, I’ve been able to rely upon my own SEO experiences to demonstrate the value of my advice and, if necessary, I can seek out the authority of other experts in the field to support my views. But, “rogue SEO’s” have damaged many websites by convincing site owners to allow them to engage in practices such as link farms, hidden text, and cloaking that violate search engine guidelines. If you have educated yourself enough about SEO to be conversant in the terminology and techniques, you should be able to smell the odor before you step in the poop.

Well-run SEO campaigns still have hiccups. Search engines periodically change their algorithms which can be a boon or a bust for clients. Most recently, Google’s “Jagger” update hurt many websites that followed SEO best practices. I have a client who had an 18-month-old domain that lost excellent Google rankings that I helped achieve in a very competitive field. I explained that based upon my research (and reported by many other SEO’s through articles and forums) that Google has algorithmically implemented the following precepts: 1) It is very difficult for new domains to rank well for competitive terms and 2) Many inbound links must age for 6-12 months before they become effective. Now, it is incumbent upon me to chart a new course to help the client regain what was lost. Conversely, Jagger gave some of my clients excellent results far more quickly than I could have expected.

Measure results. A high-level web analytics solution like Clicktracks 6 (which I use and highly recommend) is essential to measure the success of your campaign. If you are spending thousands or tens of thousands of dollars on SEO, don’t rely on a $10 per month web stats package. Your SEO vendor should offer advanced web analytics as part of the service…shy away from an SEO who doesn’t use advanced analytics because the optimization decisions on your website will be made based upon incomplete information.

As a client, you need to view SEO as a long-term strategy that has peaks and valleys. Educating yourself about the SEO process will eliminate the “surprises” that are inherent in the process and will make for a far more efficient and productive vendor/client relationship.

Elixir Systems offers seo services to help get your website ranked in Google.

Reading time: 8 – 12 minutes

There has been much debate recently on the practice of ethical Search Engine Optimization (SEO). The recent removal of a high profile SEO company from the Google results has plunged the industry into yet another debate on what is ethical and what is not in our profession.

I have been involved in the SEO industry for a few years now and the mention of the word ethics and best practices in what is still an unregulated industry creates a level of confusion the likes of which I have not observed in any other industry. Why does this reluctance to discuss ethics and best practices exist? After all, we call ourselves professionals and as professionals we should strive to be part of an industry which stands for best practices and quality of service.

The confusion seems to come from the way that search engines rank sites. Each search engine has an algorithm which is a complex method of giving a value to a site which will ensure that it is returned in the search results when a relevant keyword is typed into a search engine. These algorithms are kept secret by the search engines for obvious reasons. The SEO industry is highly focused on analyzing these algorithms and using any knowledge gained to modify and rank websites. Ask any two SEOs what they consider to be ethical in their pursuit of top results and you will most likely get two very different answers. Hence, the lack of agreement on what is ethical and what is not.

So where do we start? Our commitment must always start with the client and our responsibilities to them. An ethical company will always demonstrate loyalty and respect to their client. This is true whether they are an SEO, a doctor or an accountant.

Having sound business practices and a professional approach to all that you do then we can move onto the search engine guidelines. All the major search engines and directories publish their own guidelines of use for webmasters. This should be the minimum that any SEO practitioner complies with when working on a clients site. Search engines have a right to protect the integrity of their results and the SEO practitioners should respect those guidelines.

The confusion seems to arrive with the interpretation of the guidelines. One SEO will interpret the rules to mean one thing and another SEO will see it as completely different. The stakes are high and a top ranking in Google for your site is powerful branding and can lead to a major upswing in your business.

SEO practitioners have been classified as whitehat, and blackhat. Whitehat practitioners are the ones that try to stick to search engine guidelines while blackhat operate using more questionable techniques and view the search engines as the enemy. Unfortunately blackhat techniques can sometimes adversely affect the sites ranking and worse, get their clients sites banned.

Blackhats traditionally play to the emotional needs of their clients and often convince them to part with their money without giving clear and specific information on the changes they will make to their sites. If a client is fully aware of the risks and is prepared to buy into short term gain then that is their choice. However, many Blackhat SEOs do not disclose their tactics. Would you hire a CPA who submits your tax return including questionable practices and breaking all the IRS rules? You are the one who will get audited, prosecuted and have to pay huge fines.

Blackhat techniques are just plain bad business practice. They also do the search engines and the search users a huge disservice by contributing to poor quality of results. This adds nothing to the end user experience.

The search engines say that any type of manipulation to get a site ranked is a threat against them and the relevancy of their results. Whitehat practitioners will say that they are not manipulating sites but rather fixing search engine obstacles within a web site. The need for their services is great as many web site designers do not know how to integrate search engine friendly designs.

Last year a prospective customer contacted me after being burned by a rogue” SEO company who got their site (and others) banned from Google for spam tactics. A few weeks later they were contacted by the same rogue SEO company under a new name. Perhaps naively she almost fell for it again. She reasoned that if they had been banned once they would not do anything wrong again! This demonstrates the lack of knowledge that consumers have regarding our industry. They dont know the difference between good and bad SEO. People are being taken advantage of because of their lack of knowledge.

No matter what techniques your SEO uses; ethical , whitehat ,blackhat none at all it all boils down to one thing. Doing right by the client? Ethics is often viewed by many in the industry as hype.

I think the focus should be on serving users as opposed to manipulating the search engines. SEOs who concentrate of making the sites the best that they can be for the end user will create a much better longer term affect. The SEOs who chase algorithms and try to game the search engines get burned when there is an algorithm change. Following search engine updates involving an algorithm shift, the industry message boards abound with posts along the lines of I hate Google, they have killed my site If these posters had spent more time improving their site for their clients, and the search users, the algorithm updates would be much less stressful for them.

At this time there is no initiative within the industry to create a trade body which sets a code of best practices. It is down to the consumer to practice buyer beware and ensure that they practice due diligence in selecting an SEO. They need to use even more caution than they would use to select any other vendor. I also believe the industry has a responsibility to provide education and resources for consumers and help de-mystify the profession.

Great SEO companies share their knowledge willingly. They hide nothing to either clients or search engines. They know that they have a specialized skill and are proud of what they do. They get their results through hard work and perseverance. They also know that to do the job properly takes a lot of time. This is something which most business owners feel they do not have. They are confident that when it comes to hiring a professional, their honest and open approach to their trade will be acknowledged by organizations who only want to work with the best.

The following are some golden rules I have written on choosing an SEO. If the consumer sticks to these rules then they should avoid the practitioners in our industry who give the rest of us a bad name.

Only work with a company that follows search engine guidelines. (If I could only make one recommendation this would be it). The three main search engines are Google, MSN, and Yahoo. Look on their sites for their webmaster guidelines.

Only work with a company that documents the SEO process they will use to rank your site

Only work with a company that provides a written contract outlining their process and their costs

Get at least four proposals for your site and compare services before you make a decision

Do not work with a company that offers guarantees of top rankings. Nobody can offer these types of guarantees.

Do not lock yourself into a contract you cannot get out of if you are not getting results

Ask for references and follow up with them. If you still have any doubts ask for more. Ensure that references check out. Check that the suggested site is real and that the contact details given check out against the contact details on the site.

Do not allow any work to be carried out on your site without your approval.

Do not give the SEO carte blanche to do as they will with your site. It is your site not theirs. It is your responsibility to ensure that the SEO does not apply any techniques that would result in getting your site banned.

Check the companies BBB (Better Business Bureau) report. Check for membership of any other established trade bodies such as the AMA (American Marketing Association) Many companies claim that they are more reputable because they are part of SEMPO (Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization.) However this is not the case. All that is required to be a member of SEMPO is a $299 annual subscription.

Do not work with a company that engages in site wide link exchanges. Question their linking methods. Ensure that they only have a policy of linking with on-topic sites. Remember, your site is built for users not for search engines. If your site is about computers and your link to a site that sells childrens toys how useful do you think that link will be for your visitors.

Ask other companies doing well on the Internet who they use for SEO. Always ask about the quality of customer service that is offered. It is not much use having a great SEO if you can never get hold of them.

If it sounds too good to be true. IT IS!!!

In conclusion the SEO industry is a dynamic growing industry. This rapid growth has created some challenges for the industry. One of these challenges is the perception that outsiders have of SEO practitioners being unethical. To counteract this many SEOs are now promoting themselves as ethical SEO. However, as the industry is unregulated it is up to the consumer of the service to become informed and exercise caution when selecting a SEO vendor. As the demand for SEO continues to grow the number of unethical practitioners calling themselves SEOs will also grow. To protect yourself, take the vendor selection process seriously. Look for vendors who are willing to share knowledge and partner with you to provide the best possible outcome for you business.

Reading time: 5 – 8 minutes

It is time to look at those SEO questions from the folks who need help and guidance. Let take a read of some of the Dear SEO Drama Queen email which floods her box every day..this is a Prozac moment about to happen in the SEO world.

Dear SEO Drama Queen

I want a number one ranking for my web site. The keywords are clothes, sneakers and hats. I read so much out there on how important it is to be on Google. Can you promise me a #1 ranking for my 3 keywords?

Thanks

BA

Greetings BA
Of course I can guarantee #1 rankings on Google for those very generic keywords that compete against missions of other sites. AN SEO who couldnt isnt worth their wait in gold. It is easy. First, I need you to purchase about 100,000 shares of Google stock. Once you are a major holder, we can then bribe Google to either place you on top or we will sell their stock to Yahoo.

Let me know when you have made the purchase

Best

SEO Drama Queen

Dear SEO Drama Queen

I contacted an SEO company and they stated their fees are $300 a month for 6 months. They stated they needed to access my site, make changes to code, write content, and help me decide on keyword phrases, build link shares and on and on. I think this is a rip-off as I have seen SEO for $25 a month and they do not need to work on my site or have me make changes, they just submit the site to 1000s of engines. Should I go with the less expensive company?

Thanks

ST

Greetings ST

Cheaper is always better. Why should actually do anything to your web site. Do not use your valuable time on making your site better when you can have someone do everything for $25 bucks. I mean, why should you suffer, it is only your business, so do not put in the effort if someone can do it cheap. Lets face it, your $25 bucks pays for them to spend a minute of time placing your URL in an auto program and pressing a button. Sure, 1000s of engines no one sees, and sure, just because Yahoo, MSN and Google need you to manually place in a code before excepting, and sure, even though your site doesnt even need to be submitted in most cases, why pay for an expert when you can go cheap and get the site submitted. Heck, save the $25 bucks, let the engines find you on their own and go to the movies instead.

Best

SEO Drama Queen

Dear SEO Drama Queen

I wanted to make fast money online. I joined a program that build my site and even provides me with products to sell, submits my site and stated the money would be coming in. I selected mattresses, even though I know nothing about them, but they promised I could make $1000 a month with just a few sales. I paid they fee, went into the online builder and selected my site template, pressed some buttons and now have a site. But I cannot be found at all.even when I search by my domain name.

HELP!

ZK

Dear ZK

Oh my! You mean they lied to you? Shame on them. You take the time to select a product you nothing about, pick a web template you believe looks good and expect the money to be rolling in. Heck, they even promised to submit the site to the engines. Sure, maybe the site is not deigned to be search engine friendly. Sure, your site is held deep in their subdirectories with all the other want to get rich quick clients, sure, you never need to do another thing to promote the site.and yet you still cannot be found. I am shocked, appalled even. But surely, they would not lie to you. Maybe you should buy more sites from them for other products you know nothing about and maybe one day, you will get found and make a sale.

Best

SEO Drama Queen

Dear SEO Drama Queen

After much reading and searching, I found an SEO company that has a good standing in the SEO world. They were expensive, but promised to deliever. I paid the fees and the process began. But, I was expected to work on the site as well. I was expected to provide keyword rich content or actually pay them to write content for my site. I was expected to even make my site easier to read by engines, change navigation schemes and work on marketing lingo and something they called site stickyness Why am I paying them when I feel like I do all the work. This must be wrong and I am getting ripped off? I have seen other SEO companies that say I do not need to make any changes and they will add 100s of pages to my site that promise top rankings. What should I do?

Worried

LM

Dear LM

Get your money back now. How dare this SEO Company expect you to actually work with them on making your site more SEO ready? I mean it is your site, you should have some say in it, and if you do not want to make changes that will help the SEO achieve their goalswell then do not. Go with that other SEO Company. Let them add 100s of hidden pages to the site. That way, in 3-6 months when Google realizes what has been done, any rankings achieved will be droppedbut do not worry, you will have 3-6 months of great placements and make lots of money. Then you can remove those bad pages, send an apology letter to Google and repeat the process again. I am sure that will be just perfect. Do not follow that other SEO Company as they expect you to work with them in a team effort, and as we know, there is no I in team

Best

SEO Drama Queen

My Dear Readers: Oy VEY…what I must put up with. Let us just remember, when you hire an SEO Consultant, be sure they know the facts and have the proof to backup what they say. SEO is a team effort. Your SEO consultant will request you make changes, will help make changes and will become a member of your team. 65% of people who hire an SEO do not follow their advice and thus, can meet with failer. Remember this, there is more to SEO then just adding a tag here, a word there, a link and so on. It takes time and hard work, but when done right, can provide you with wonderful success. I should know…after all, I am the SEO Queen!

The actual SALE entirely depends on your product line, service levels you offer, after sales service, product / service pricing and many other factors. So its unfair to hold SEO professional responsible if you are not getting desired jump in sales even after increase in traffic to your website.

Reading time: 4 – 6 minutes

Based on my experience in executing SEO projects for over half a decade, I am posting a blog entry which deals with the suggestions for a client working with any SEO professional or SEO firm for optimizing his website.

Have complete faith in SEO professional:

Once you finalize SEO professional or SEO Company, trust their skills. Also you need to trust their knowledge and experience. Do give them freehand to work on their methodology and indulge yourself in learning basics about their methodology and approach. You can discuss the blueprints they prepare for your website, in detail with them. This will help your SEO professional in gaining your confidence and also will help you in reaching a comfort level with your SEO professional.

Have reasonable / realistic expectations about your SEO project:
SEO can’t work miracles irrespective of their experience and past track record. Especially if the site is new, it may take months to really see traffic building up because of SEO work. So its quite unfair on your part to expect your website appearing in top 10 search results within a month of SEO work done. This is the reason why a good SEO professional DO NOT guarantees any results for the SEO job.

Be patient with the results and be realistic:
SEO is not a fuse wire which can trigger a chain reaction and your site will be bombarded with huge traffic in a matter of time. You need to be patient with SEO. It takes time to implement SEO as it’s a scientific approach and can be implemented after taking a series of steps, each requiring thorough analysis. The approach implemented by a SEO professional may take time to get indexed properly and it may take a little while to get appreciation by search engines in terms of rankings.

Work in detail with SEO and treat him as a partner:
You need to detail SEO about every minute thing related to functionality of your business so that he can come up with a decent research on keywords. Talk to him about the nature of business, customer behavior, product range, your competitors, target group / area. Based on the information provided by you, SEO can pick right sets of keywords and can boost your website rankings and get the right traffic.

Be ready to pay for quality work:
Choose a SEO professional / SEO company based on the track record. Once zero in on any professional based on the capabilities, then be ready to pay for the quality work which you expect from him. “If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys”. There are plenty of people who are ready to do SEO in a couple of hundred dollars. Their job is just to stuff keywords and create metas and they are done. So my advise is be cautious while picking SEO and be ready to pay for quality work as it is something which is going to bring in more MOOLAH to your business and your growth depends on this.

Do not hesitate taking an elementary class from SEO professional about SEO approaches and methodologies: Learn the basics of SEO from SEO professional working on your project. It takes little efforts but the reward is quite satisfying. You will not be in dark about the SEO progress and you will attain a comfort level with your SEO professional.

SEO is not a one time effort:
SEO is not doing a one time job and then sit and wait for the results. You can equate it with the regular marketing and sales efforts. You need to keep refining the approach based on the results which you get crawl after crawl. You need to measure finite parameters and make changes in your website / content / visuals accordingly so that you get better and better visibility. After the work is done, its about putting in time & efforts to sustain rankings and continue taking actions for improve rankings.

The success of your business does not depend entirely on SEO:
This is one of the most important points. Do not rely on SEO for generating more revenues and increasing your business reach among the potential buyers. A SEO can drive targeted traffic to your website, however he can not force visitors to buy from you whether its service or any product. The actual SALE entirely depends on your product line, service levels you offer, after sales service, product / service pricing and many other factors. So its unfair to hold SEO professional responsible if you are not getting desired jump in sales even after increase in traffic to your website.

Reading time: 6 – 9 minutes

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization is the art (and science) of bringing a web site to the top of Google and other major search engines for specific keywords that you want to target.

Since being on the first page and in the #1 position for your keywords always means more traffic to your web site, it is easy to see why there is such a high demand for effective SEO services today.

So, what does it take for your web site to rise to the top of Google? A lot of that is dependent upon the specific industry your business is in. For example, it would be fairly easy to rank #1 in Google if you had a unique service or product that nobody else had in Branson. But if you are wanting to rank well for a keyword like “branson tickets”, it would be much more complicated, due to the sheer number of other web sites that are also trying to compete for that keyword.

Just like any other “battle”, the more contestants you have playing, the tougher the competition is going to be. And SEO is definitely a battle – make no mistake about it. The modern-day SEO arena is home to some of the most ferocious Internet and Web-based marketing tactics known to man.

The reason for this highly-competitive force is the nature Internet marketing itself. Most businesses have embraced the Internet and World Wide Web as their primary channel for marketing, advertising, and information distribution channels. More and more businesses are trying to gain popularity and showcase what they have to offer to the entire world – not just the locals.

And it makes sense. The more people you can reach on the Web, the more customers and clients your business will attract altogether.

But still, there are a large number of web sites that only use minimal SEO tactics. And it’s almost shocking when you analyze a web site and clearly see that even text-book SEO elements have been neglected or omitted entirely. These are the same web sites for the businesses that are struggling to make ends meet, especially in the economic turmoil we are facing at the moment.

And what about the web sites for those businesses that are actually being prolific, in spite of the economy? Those web sites are the ones that have implemented professional SEO services to gain a better position in the search engines. And they are thriving!

It’s a well known fact that if your web site is not listed on the first page of Google, you are missing out on about 70% of all traffic on the Web today. That’s a pretty big number. But it’s very true. If your business is going to be successful on the Web, then you need to invest in a SEO campaign that can bring you all the way to the top.

And when you consider the cost of traditional advertising methods vs. SEO / SEM, you can clearly see that not only is SEO more affordable, it’s also more effective. By investing in quality SEO, you’ll see a much larger return on investment than you would with radio, TV, or yellow page advertisements. Plus, all of the traditional advertising methods restrict you to the local or regional market.

An effective SEO campaign will allow you to reach people from all over the world. Now that’s powerful!
You really need to have your web site optimized for the search engines by a qualified SEO professional who can deliver the search engine optimization services you need to stay ahead of the competition.

Here are a few tips to consider while you are seeking the right SEO professional to help your web site get a better rank in Google:

1. Find an SEO professional who is familiar with the market you are in. By understanding the competitive nature of your specific industry, your SEO professional will be better equipped to provide you with effective SEO services.

2. Ask to see examples of previous SEO campaigns that were a success. It is best if they have previously successful SEO campaigns that were for your particular market / web sites related to yours specifically. That way, you’ll know they fully understand how to compete with the other sites in your arena.

3. Find out how long it will take before you begin to see some results and improved search engine rankings for your web site. All quality SEO work takes time. It can be weeks or even months before you start to see your web site climbing up in the search engine results. It’s better to have an accurate time estimate before you start so that there are not any surprises later on down the road.

4. Ask the SEO professional what exactly will take place during the SEO campaign. Often times, many search engine optimization “experts” will be cryptic and try to avoid this question. And often, it is indicative of an inexperienced “wanna be”. Any good SEO professional worth his salt will be able to tell you exactly what will occur during your SEO process.

5. Avoid any SEO professional who claims to give you “x” amount of links for “x” amount of dollars. For example, if he tells you something like “I can give you 500 links for $500…”, then it is probably not going to be very effective SEO. All true SEO experts know that it’s the quality, not the quantity of links that matters the most.

6. Ask to be kept up-to-date during your entire SEO campaign. That way, you’ll be able to keep up on what is really going on, what work is being performed, how many hours are being invested, etc.

7. Find out ( before the SEO campaign begins ) what it is going to take to maintain the higher search engine position after you have reached it. All good SEO experts know that getting to the top of Google is only half the battle. Once you are there, it will require some attention and a little on-going work to insure that your Branson web site stays up there.

8. Make it very clear in the beginning that you do not want any “black hat” SEO techniques used during the process of your SEO campaign. Black hat SEO is the practice of implementing questionable SEO practices in the eyes of Google and it will certainly get your web site banned from the Google index!

Remember: always ask questions and stay informed. By keeping these tips in mind, you’ll have better chances of finding the right SEO professional to provide you with a very successful and effective SEO campaign.
